I'm sure you use a password several times on a daily basis. Let's take a look at some basis tips for your password security.

Do you use different passwords for every account?   You should be.

81% of data breaches are caused by compromised, weak and REUSED passwords.

This means don't use the password over and over when it expires. But also, use different passwords for different sites.

Are you changing your passwords on a regular basis?   You should be.

Changing your password regularly can protect you against security issues that haven't happened yet but also against ones that have already happened.

Do NOT share your passwords -- if you do, you just lost all your security with your password.

And do NOT use part of your username! Some 43 percent of all password-guessing attempts simply reentered the username.

Create a strong passwords, here are some recommendations:

  • Length: Each character increase the strength. Typically it's should be a minimum of 8 characters.
  • Character sets: Should be a combination of both lower and upper letter, numbers and include special characters to increase complexity
  • Words or Phrase: skip the words go with a phrase, easier to remember and harder to break
  • Use Multi-factor authentication

Password security should be part of your Security Awareness Training. Remember, Security Awareness Training isn't a one and done, it must be reviewed and update on a regular basis, too.
